José Ugarte Oliva

José is a Forestry Engineer specializing in the forestry industry, with a master's in Project Management. He leads the Materials and Supplies Laboratory at CITEmadera Lima (ISO 17025 accredited) and has extensive experience in wood quality assessment, both in the lab and the field. A specialist in wood anatomy and tropical timber identification, he focuses on research into Peruvian wood species, technological properties, and identification methods. Recently, he has worked on collecting biological material and implementing wood identification technologies in Peru using artificial vision and DART-TOFMS mass spectrometry. He also contributes to developing Peruvian technical standards as a member of INACAL’s Wood and Carpentry Subcommittee.
