World Forest ID has been exploring how scientific testing can strengthen the Due Care and Due Diligence processes of corporate partners, supporting transparent supply chains, timber sourcing integrity, and responsible producers.
As part of this study, companies in the US and UK donated timber samples taken from products in their supply chains. The research focused on birch (Betula spp.), a species identified as high-risk due to concerns around sanctioned sourcing.
