Arif holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Flinders University, and is based at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. He specialises in using genetic techniques to track timber, aiming to combat illegal logging and promote sustainable forestry. As the coordinator of several international projects, Arif collaborates with global partners to enhance timber identification accuracy. Arif also oversees the management of timber and forest risk commodity sample collections in Australia for World Forest ID.
